Oscar-nominated actor Jackie Earle Haley has been unmasked as the latest incarnation of horror movie icon Freddy Krueger in a remake of "A Nightmare On Elm Street," it was reported Monday.
Haley, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance as a convicted sex offender in 2006 drama "Little Children," has signed to star as Krueger, the knife-fingered killer who haunts teenagers' dreams, Variety reported.
The "Elm Street" franchise is being revived by studio New Line and production company Platinum Dunes, with filming set to begin next month in Chicago, the report said.
Krueger starred in a total of eight films and two television spin-offs after making his debut in director Wes Craven's 1984 classic.
The chilling character, originally played by Robert Englund, became one of the most popular horror villains of 1980s cinema.
Haley, 47, made his name as a child actor in 1970s comedy "The Bad News Bears" before reviving his career with "Little Children."
He recently starred in the comic-book adaptation "Watchmen" and is due to appear in Martin Scorsese's upcoming "Shutter Island" with Leonardo DiCaprio due out this year.

I personally can't wait for this... Normally I am worried when someone tries to remake what would call a fookin classic. But in this case, I would rather see it redone than see another sequal, they were starting to get old.. I also think it might be good to see a new portrayal of Freddy, and while I have always enjoyed Robert Englund as Freddy.. I think that Jackie Earle Haley might just be the guy to pull this off.
Anyways, theres some news for you.. Looking forward to this one!
